Volunteer Opportunities

The MPSA is comprised of a group of JGMS parent volunteers who organize efforts to support the school, students, teachers, and staff.  We need your help to provide an active role in the school.  The following is a list of specific positions that need to volunteers, unless identified below as being filled already.  Don’t see something here but still want to help?  We’d love to hear from you!

Communications – are you savvy with social media?  Do you blog and/or use WordPress?  Are you a marketing maven familiar with Mail Chimp?  Even if you don’t know the latter two platforms, but you’re good with Facebook, emailing, and/or Twitter, we can teach you the basics so you can take over.  One or two people can share this job.  We have a Twitter feed, Facebook account, and weekly & as-needed email blast via Mail Chimp.  This website needs updating too.   Status: presently managed by Kerry Rackey, Paula Gilarde & Susan DiGangi. Seeking replacements for upcoming school year.  Contact JGMSParents@gmail.com about this.

Hospitality – Hospitality coordinates refreshments for school staff activities.  The committee solicits food and refreshments from MSPA families for activities like the Welcome Back Teachers Luncheon in the Fall, their Holiday sweet treats, and Teacher/School Staff Appreciation Week.  Status: OPEN.  Seeking someone now and for upcoming school year(s).  Contact JGMSParents@gmail.com about this.

Teacher Appreciation Week/Day Coordinator – a person is needed to organize this event.  In the past, it was a meal a day for the teachers, but it will be up to the Coordinator.  Ideally, there will be a bagel breakfast (person orders food and brings it to school), a catered lunch, and then a raffle day.  Coordinator manages a Sign-Up Genius to get volunteers to provide food items, set up/clean up help, and raffle donations.  This person can be the Hospitality Chair or work independently. Status: OPEN.  Seeking someone now and for upcoming school year(s).  Contact JGMSParents@gmail.com about this.

Moving On Graduation Festivities:  Get involved in the most special night of our 8th graders lives in middle school — graduation and “moving on” to high school.  Parents put the festivities together, from picking the theme for the graduation and decorating to picking up donated food from local restaurants and helping chaperone.  Planning occurs from March – June.  Moving On typically is held the last week of school.  Date:  TBD, depending on how snow days adjust the last day of school.  Co-Chairs, subcommittee chairs, and many volunteers needed. See the Moving On 2016 page for more info. Contact JGMSParents@gmail.com about this.

Special Fundraising Events:  The school looks to the MSPA to contribute funds towards programs for our students, especially when the school budget is tight. All funds raised by the MSPA go back to the school and kids.  Plan and coordinate fundraising events & efforts with the Board and other volunteers. Busiest time in August, September, October. Status: OPEN.  Seeking someone now and for upcoming school year(s). Contact  JGMSParents@gmail.com about this.
